Islamic Centre Update

Assalaamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh!
(Peace be unto you and so may the mercy of Allah and His blessings)

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Here is a quick update on the Masjid Fundraising effort and search so far.

Summary of Community Meeting and subsequent meetings
  • All members of the community to get their pledges in privately to the committee members
  • Minimum requirements for a Islamic Centre
    • Minimum 1500 m2 land to allow for parking of ~30 cars (council requirement)
    • not more than 10 minutes from the city to make it easier for everyone to attend.
    • Preference to buy land first with money raised within the community and then build a building on it, unless an otherwise suitable property is found.

Fundraising Drive

Alhamdulillah we have $110,000 currently in the account and have received $94,000 in pledges from 23 families. We strongly encourage the rest of the families to get their pledges in so we have a better idea of how much we can raise locally.

Islamic Centre Search

We have been monitoring the market and are very actively seeking opportunities for a Masjid/ Islamic Centre. A number of properties were considered and found unsuitable. There are a couple of properties which are being explored but we are still keeping an eye out.

If you would like details as to the properties we have considered please contact us as we are more than happy to discuss.

If any of the properties are deemed to be viable after having dealt with relevant concerns e.g. council approvals, NZTA etc .. we will inshaAllah present these to the community.

JazakAllah khairun to all of those who have been actively assisting in the search. We sincerely appreciate everyone's efforts.

Also, we regularly discuss options after maghrib Salah, you are all encouraged to attend and participate in these discussions.

May Allah SWT accept everyone's efforts and bless our community with a Masjid that unites the ummah, and brings us all closer to Him. Ameen.

Jazaka Allah
May Allah grant you (goodness)

Ma'asalama
